“If you can't beat your enemy, join him” is the famous phrase of the Bishop of Troyes, in France, when he saw that Attila was coming... as he knew that he could not defeat him, he decided to join him and save his people... Well, this seems to be Toyota's strategy by associating with the Chinese. We are going to tell you about it. The news is this: The future Toyota Corolla will have Chinese BYD technology... watch out! We are talking about Toyota, a brand that has been number 1 in the world in 2023... #cars #toyota #byd Become a member of this channel to enjoy advantages: / hermetic garage We are talking about, probably, its most emblematic model, to which we dedicated a monographic video entitled “Toyota Corolla, 50 million!”. And we are talking about BYD, a Chinese brand whose first car, the F3, appeared in 2005 and which has since manufactured 6 million electric cars, overtaking Tesla as the number 1 manufacturer of electric cars in the world… Not so long ago we believed that founding a brand from scratch and placing it among the largest in the world was little less than impossible. Well, now that everything is changing, that is no longer the case. Tesla, founded in 2003, has become the American brand with the best image and the most valuable motor company. BYD, on the other hand, was founded on February 10, 1995 by Wang Chuanfu, a chemist of just 29 years old, in the city of Shenzhen. It first focused on batteries, launching its first car in 2005. It is a battery supplier, among others, to Tesla and has taken the lead as the first electric car manufacturer from the American brand… Not long after the end of the Second World War, the Japanese arrived in Europe and the USA, then the “new Japanese”, which is what the Koreans were called with almost contempt, and now the Chinese are coming… And in all cases, in Europe, there is a behavior that is repeated: First, an evident contempt for cheap but low-quality products. Second: Accusations of plagiarism that, it is fair to say, in many cases were, are and will be true. And third, then… well, there is no choice but to accept that they are making products that are the same and in some cases better than us, the Europeans. European brands have joined together to become stronger, giving rise to giant groups such as Stellantis and the VAG group. But the Japanese are already working along these lines and Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi are already negotiating a kind of union to form a powerful group... and on the other hand, Mazda, Subaru and Toyota are working together. Toyota has been one of the few brands that has been "combative" on the issue of electric cars. But very combative. So much so that its president, Akio Toyoda, a member of the brand's founding family, declared at the beginning of this year that "Toyota does not believe in the electric car." I insist, because it is important: This is said by the CEO of the world's number 1 brand and precursor of hybrid cars. According to data from reliable analysts at "Bloomberg New Energy Finance" in 2022, China produced 77 percent of the world's lithium-ion batteries. It is expected that by 2030, that is, by the day after tomorrow, the world’s production of batteries for all types of devices, not just cars, will increase eightfold… and that China’s share will drop from 77 to 69 percent… Meanwhile, what percentage of batteries does Japan manufacture? The most optimistic figures are less than 10 percent of all types of batteries… if we stick to batteries for automotive use, the percentage is much lower. In other words, the Chinese have and will have “the upper hand”, much more so the more the electric car expands… A leak to the Japanese media Bestcar revealed that Toyota is working with BYD for its new Corolla, which will have a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated internal combustion engine developed jointly with Mazda, which contributes its “Skyactiv” technology, with Subaru and Toyota itself. But according to these sources, which are generally very reliable, the electric-electronic part will be from BYD, the same or similar to that used in the successful BYD Seal… The new Corolla, which is a hybrid, will have a range of around 100 km in exclusively electric mode, thanks to BYD technology. And with a full tank, it can have a range of over 2,000 km! If things weren’t going well for European manufacturers, these alliances are going to make things worse. And our politicians seem to be playing on the opposing team. When this car arrives in Europe and is a hit or at least sells very well, which is very likely, I’m sure some manager of some brand will come out saying that this success surprises them… (laughs). Not me. Some of you will accuse me of being a prophet of doom, which I am not, but either we Europeans wake up, including the industry, businessmen, unions and politicians… or some of the European companies and factories will disappear and many, or almost all, will suffer great
