Sir Robert Chiltern is a respected politician, under-secretary at the Foreign Office and, in the opinion of his wife Lady Chiltern, an ideal husband. But he has a problem of conscience: at the beginning of his political career he got rich by selling a state secret to an Austrian nobleman, and in order not to lose the love of his wife (who was morally rigid), he never brought up this argument. While the life of the Chilterns is characterized by prosperity and partying, Mrs. Cheveley, a former schoolmate of Mrs. Chiltern's, appears, who comes from Vienna to ask Robert to support her in the House of Lords in order to approve a speculative project of large proportions. Otherwise, the woman - who knows about Sir Chiltern's youthful 'affair' - threatens to publish a letter to expose him. Such an exposure risks destroying both Sir Chiltern's marriage and political career. Sir Chiltren does not want to bow to the blackmail, and Mrs. Cheveley informs his wife who, desperate, asks for the help of an old friend, Lord Goring. The note he writes, however, falls into the hands of Mrs. Cheveley, who is at Goring's house precisely to show him that compromising letter... QUESTION: How does Sir Robert Chiltren manage to get away with it? -------------------- Cast: Alexandru Critico, Clody Berthola, Aurelia Sorescu, Coty Hociung, Constantin Brezeanu, Tanţi Cocea, Marieta Rareş, Tudorel Popa, Vasile Bulandra, Constantin Tăpârdea, Ion Lucian.
