Using so-called 'spoofing' techniques, criminals were able to abuse the telephone number of various banks in recent months to call people and pretend to be an employee of the fraud helpdesk of the bank in question. In this way, they were able to steal millions of euros from consumers. It now appears that Rabobank is compensating for this fraud, but customers of ING and ABN Amro are paying for the damage themselves.
