David Koronczyk was born in 1941 in Kazakhstan, where his parents had been in 1939. After returning to Poland in 1946, his family settled in Szczecin, and then moved to Głuszyca in Lower Silesia. David went to school in Warsaw, and then began studying at a construction technical school in Łódź, where David's parents had also moved. In 1960, the interviewee's sister left for Australia, and he himself decided to emigrate in 1965. Until his departure, David was actively involved in the activities of the TSKŻ in Łódź: he ran a youth group, whose members were younger children attending Perec's school, and he also served as a tutor at summer camps. David's parents and brother left Poland in 1970. During the emigration, David's father died in Rome.
