This success had personal consequences for the author; his sovereign, for whom he was only a military doctor, forbade him from writing. So a short time later, the stage revolutionary had no choice but to follow the example of his character Karl Moor and become an outlaw himself - in other words, to flee his homeland of Württemberg.
