On September 27, 2001, an armed man ran into the Zug cantonal council chamber and killed 14 politicians. A rampage that changed Switzerland. Heavily armed, he entered the cantonal parliament in Zug and caused a bloodbath. He fired 90 shots within two and a half minutes. At the end, he killed himself. Since then, parliaments in Switzerland - including the Federal Palace - have been protected by police. The crime was also a reason for the tightening of gun laws. The attack caused a great deal of personal suffering: for example, for Karl Gretener's family. The SVP politician left behind his wife Annemarie and four children aged between two and eight. 20 years later, the Gretener family and politicians involved talk about the long-term consequences of the attack. Police officers who were on the front line, a reporter who witnessed the attack in an office above the cantonal council chamber, and the then pastor of the city of Zug, who had prepared the memorial service for the victims and had to mediate between the relatives and the bishop, also remember it. In the film by producer Rolf Elsener and director Daniel von Aarburg, the perpetrator is neither named nor shown his face. The focus is neither on the motives nor on the act itself, but on the question of how relatives and those involved were able to build a new life after such a traumatic event. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ▪ A film by Rolf Elsener ▪ Director: Aaniel von Aarburg ▪ Camera: René Schönenberger ▪ Editing: Nichole Hussy ▪ Production: Oliver Bolt ▪ Management: Hansjörg Niklaus © 2021 SRF ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is «DOK»: Our in-depth documentaries on topics from society, nature, politics, sport and business.
