The trolleybus system is unique in the Netherlands as the only trolleybus system still operating in the country. It opened on 5 September 1949. Arnhem has a population of almost 150,000. - The Arnhem trolleybus is the only remaining trolleybus network in the Benelux and one of the largest in Western Europe. For a long time, the carrier GVA, later incorporated into GVM, then Oostnet and since 1999 Connexxion, was responsible for the operation. After a public tender by the province of Gelderland, the concession for bus transport in the entire Arnhem Nijmegen city region, and thus also the trolley, came into the hands of Hermes, a subsidiary of Connexxion, on 9 December 2012.
