Today, Palanga is the most popular resort in Lithuania, attracting vacationers not only with the sea, mild climate, developed recreation and entertainment infrastructure, but also with a rich architectural heritage that commemorates the beginning of the development of the resort. The Tiškevičius family is particularly important for the development of Palanga as a resort area. Since the 19th century Counts intensively created a family summer residence in the town: built and rented new villas, improved the town's infrastructure, and initiated the creation of cultural, recreational and health facilities. Counts Feliksas and Antanina Tiškevičiai in the 19th century. At the end of the 19th century, in the forest of Birutė near the Baltic Sea, a complex marking the beginning of the resort era in Palanga began to be created - a palace building and a park. The palace project, a brick building for the permanent residence of the count in Palanga, was prepared by the German architect Franz Heinrich Schwechten. The author of the park project is the famous French landscape architect Edouard François André, who came to Lithuania at the invitation of Tiškevičius. In a similar period, a little later, the architect created the other three landscape parks of Trakai Vokė, Užutraki and Lentvaris on the order of the family of the counts. The sea bridge built by Tiškevičius in the 19th century. late-20th century Ave. was intended for the transportation of cargo transported by ships. A horse-drawn narrow-gauge freight railway was built on the bridge. During the season, its activity was less intense, so the bridge became a walking path for vacationers. Later, an unsuccessful attempt was made to extend the bridge due to shoals. With the mooring of ships no longer possible, the function of the bridge remained only recreational.
