Information film about the mobilizable troops of the Dutch army, intended for conscripts who have completed their first exercise. They are addressed directly by the voice-over. The mobilizable troops are larger than the current ready first army corps. The film begins with images of a column of army vehicles driving on the public road. Then images of the Golden Coach on the Binnenhof on Budget Day. According to Dutch law, every Dutch citizen is obliged to cooperate in the defense of their country. In the event of war or a threat of war, Dutch citizens can therefore be called up for service again, up to a certain age. Images of a column of army vehicles driving over rough terrain. The entire conscription consists of three periods. The first exercise, the short leave and the long leave. Images of the Frederikkazerne, where conscripts who have completed their first exercise leave the gate. The voice-over explains the procedures for the short and long leave. This is clarified with a few animations, images of forms and simulated situations involving soldier air gunner Jansen, who is leaving the service. After leaving the service, he went back to work for his old boss, a Shell petrol station. He fills up an Opel Kadett. He may have forgotten his service, but the service has not forgotten him. Nice images of female office workers who manage the files of all conscripts. Images of the Central Mobilization Office, where the files of all soldiers on extended leave are processed. Office garden with girls at work. Images of punch cards, printers, computers. Description of the authorization for extended leave and the associated procedures to be followed. Images of mobilization complexes and all the equipment that is stored there. Then Jansen's living room. His wife gives him the authorization that arrived in the mail. He replaces his X authorization with the new one in his military passport. Then attention is paid to the different ways of calling up. Jansen's boss at the petrol station reads to him from the newspaper that the threat of war is increasing. Jansen doesn't take it too seriously. The next morning he sits at the breakfast table with his wife. On the radio he hears that colleagues with an X-authority are already being called up. Recordings in mobilization complexes, where the equipment is being prepared with his own equipment and tools. The vehicles are being made ready to drive. Among other things, you can see batteries being filled with battery acid. Then back to Jansen in the gas station. In conversation with a customer he realizes that he will soon be called up too. After work he sees the public notices that are posted in the town hall. Back home he tells his wife that it will soon be his turn too. And indeed, the call follows on television. He must respond to the call immediately. His wife has already prepared everything for him, she only has to make two sandwiches for him. At the station he meets other fellow sufferers from the Alfa company. From the destination station they continue their journey with ready trucks. Arrival at the registration point, a school specially equipped for the purpose. The sleeping places are set up in the classrooms. Preparations are also made at the mobilization complex: loading the company equipment, also the ammunition, petrol and food are taken along. When the first full vehicle arrives at the school, they are emptied together. The gunners go to the mobilization complex to help their drivers move the vehicles to the school. When the vehicles are at the school, the gunners clean and prepare the machine guns. Then those who have been able to sleep a bit are woken up. Washing, shaving. Among other things, the personal weapons are prepared for issue. After everyone has maintained their weapon, gas mask and equipment, the company is ready to be deployed. When the other companies are also ready, the battalion is assembled and moved to the war location. Within 24 hours they have become a combat-ready and deployable unit. The same has happened to other units all over the country. Together with the ready troops they have formed the entire Dutch army. From the collection of NIMH.
