The project to extend the tram line in Bratislava's Petržalka, in the Jungmannova - Janíkov dvor section, has reached a significant milestone. On December 19, 2024, the first test tram passed along the new line, which represents a key step towards the launch of full operation planned for spring 2025. "I am very pleased that we were able to bring such a pre-Christmas gift to the people of Bratislava, and specifically to the people of Petržalka, and I thank the residents of this housing estate for the enormous amount of patience with which they are enduring all the restrictions related to the construction of the Petržalka tram," said Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo. The construction of this line began at the end of November 2021 and faced several challenges, including a temporary suspension of work. Despite this, progress has been made, with tracks already laid and traction lines installed along the entire section. Greenery is also an important aspect of the project; The entire length of the line will be covered with green stonecrop, except for crossings and bridges, and more than 1,500 trees and 7,000 m² of bushes will be added to the area. The project is financed through EU funds. In November 2024, the capital city and the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic signed a non-refundable financial contribution agreement of more than 66 million euros, which will enable the smooth continuation of work and the completion of the project. After the new line is launched in spring 2025, the traffic situation in Petržalka, the largest district of Bratislava, is expected to improve, and public transport passengers will enjoy increased comfort. #petrzalskaelektricka #bratislava #mhd
