At the event, “The Mathematics of Artificial Intelligence”, hosted on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Moraitis School Theater, in Paleo Psychiko, Petros Dellaportas, Professor of Statistics at University College London and the Athens University of Economics and Business, also a founding member of the THALE + FRIENDS group, discusses with Konstantinos Daskalakis, Professor of Computer Science at MIT, the world of Artificial Intelligence. In their discussion, the two interlocutors examine the mathematical foundations and the latest developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence, whose development also utilizes knowledge derived from theoretical fields and promises to radically change the way of life in the modern world. Konstantinos Daskalakis, Professor of Computer Science at MIT, is a graduate of NTUA with a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He became internationally known at the age of 24 when he managed, together with Goldberg and Papadimitriou, to solve a game theory problem that had remained unsolved by the work of Nobel laureate John Forbes Nash for 60 years. Among the important distinctions he has received are the highest scientific distinction, the Rolf Nevanlinna Prize, for his contribution to the mathematics of computers, and the international Grace Murray Hopper Award of the international computer science organization (Association of Computing Machinery-ACM). Petros Dellaportas is a co-founder of the THALES + FRIENDS group, a professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business and at University College London. Since 2016, he has been a fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, the National Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence of Great Britain. The THALIS + FRIENDS group is a large group of volunteers, who inspire and support the creation of reading clubs, as well as other activities. It is an open network of information and joint actions, which starts from the field of education and opens up to society. It was founded in 2005 by mathematicians and writers Apostolos Doxiadis, Tefkros Michaelides and Professor of the Department of Statistics of the Athens University of Economics Petros Dellaportas, who share their common interest in marrying mathematics with storytelling. We warmly thank the managers and teachers of the Moraitis School for their kind initiative to host our group's event in their school hall. We especially thank Mrs. Chrysanthi Kartali, Mr. Antonis Kartali and Mr. Giorgos Kartali.
