A train rattles through the night, the brakes don't work, it's going downhill. There are just a few minutes to decide how to stop the train. The unbraked journey of the BLS construction train is like a ghost train. The new documentary series tells this true story in great detail, which happened 13 years ago in the Bernese Oberland. Frutigen BE, May 17, 2006, 3:00 a.m.: A 300-ton construction train with three people on board starts moving. After five minutes of driving, the train drivers notice that the brakes aren't working. The next few kilometers are all downhill. In desperation, they call the dispatchers at the headquarters in Spiez for help. The dispatchers who drove the train in the last few minutes and had to decide between life and death helped SRF with the research and spoke about the details of the accident. They are played by the actors Jonathan Loosli and Michael Neuenschwander. In addition, original radio and telephone conversations from that night allow the accident to be retraced in detail. On TV, the ghost train opens the new Saturday evening series "It happened on...", which deals with events from recent Swiss history. The film condenses re-enactments on the tracks and in the control center with statements from those involved, victims and eyewitnesses into a multi-layered docudrama.
