This is because he was born in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do, the home of Nongak, graduated from Jeongeup Agricultural High School, began playing janggu sticks at the age of 19, and has been a name that has accumulated over 50 years of experience playing Seoljanggu. His teacher was Lee Bong-moon, also from Jeongeup. He learned janggu from his teacher and played with him as a member of the Jeongeup Nongak Band led by him for over 10 years. When Mr. Lee Bong-moon formally organized the Jeongeup Nongak Troupe in 1940, he participated as a founding member and took over the position of the Nongak Troupe's leader after the liberation in 1945. As an agricultural people, his janggu rhythm and splendid dance were performed in our festivals, which are inseparable from Nongak, and his rhythm was enough to excite the audience whenever there was a big competition or event. In 1960, he came to Seoul and took office as a teacher at the National Gugak Arts School to train his students. From then on, he participated in folk art troupes that went abroad and frequently performed overseas in Europe, the United States, and Japan. He not only trained his students through schools and academies, but also recorded a record in 1963, which was rare for Nongak. In particular, the lively atmosphere of his janggu that he performed at the cheering squad for the Korean athletes at the Tokyo Olympics was another stage where the essence of our Nongak was displayed. His Seoljanggu is characterized by frequent jangdan and a special characteristic of the palsawi in Gujeongnori. His dance, which is not befitting his old age of 70, is full of energy when he wears a hat and holds only the janggu sticks, and he vigorously drives the jangdan and excites people, will unfold another feast of dance and music.
