Xaintrie, a small region in the south-east of Limousin, is undoubtedly one of the most astonishing places in Corrèze. Limousin from an administrative point of view, Auvergne by spirituality and its place in the landscape movement of the Cantal mountains, it is a granite plateau cut by deep gorges delimited by three rivers, the Maronne, the Cère and the Dordogne, with grandiose landscapes, a sometimes exuberant nature. We set off to discover this marginal territory with Jean Michel Teulière, eco-interpreter for the Limousin Nature Environnement association, ornithologist and scientific correspondent of the National Museum of Natural History but above all from a family settled here for generations. The opportunity to discover the richness of the cultural and human heritage of Xaintrie and to take a nice lesson in ornithology. With Angélique Marty, historian in the Eveha company, specialized in preventive archaeology, we discover the impressive Tours de Merle which bring together the remains of seven castles built from the 11th to the 14th century. Then, direction the Medieval Farms of Saint Julien aux Bois created from scratch by Pierre Gire. Enlightened autodidact, keen observer, Pierre helped by his family and some friends has built here a place which could fool the best of archaeologists so meticulous and precise is the reconstruction work. Limousin is indeed a breeding land, famous for its Limousin breed. But let's not forget that we are right next to Cantal! This explains why in Yves Fourtet's family, the Salers breed has been raised for over 60 years.
