Upon returning from France at the beginning of the 14th century, Charles III the Noble ordered the construction of this castle in Olite to house his court. The castle is divided into two areas called the Old Palace and the New Palace. The Old Palace was originally laid out around a rectangular central courtyard where the stables, granary and pantry were located. Of this part, today, only the walls and towers remain standing: the Tower of San Jorge, where the old chapel of his name was located, the Prison Tower to the northeast, the Stork Tower to the northwest, and a fourth, unnamed one to the southwest.
