Hello everyone, today I would like to take apart a nice Simson S53 M500 engine with you. We will look at the Simson engine together. I will show you the differences to the s51 engine and where it is restricted. I will show you what to look out for when you do a general overhaul of a Simson s51/S53 engine. There is a lot that can go wrong when repairing a Simson engine. I will give you tips and tricks for engine repairs and show you how I personally get an engine like this up and running again. The Simson S 53 is a two-seater moped made by Simson in Suhl. It is the successor to the well-known Simson S 51. The S 53 is the last moped designed by Simson in the GDR. The main difference to its predecessor, the Simson S 51, is a more modern look, achieved through the more generous use of plastic trim parts and new colors. Development work on a successor to the S-51 began in 1984, but due to a lack of funds, it was ultimately necessary to limit itself to minor changes, which finally resulted in the S 53 model in 1990. The proven M541 two-stroke engine with four gears (except for the moped version) was further developed. In September 1990, the S 53 replaced the Simson S-51 models that had been produced up to that point. The press doubted that the rather timid modernizations would meet the demands of the new era. Ultimately, however, the S 53 remained in the production program until the company was liquidated in 2002 and was one of the most successful models produced in the 1990s. However, the number of units produced was orders of magnitude lower than that of its predecessor, the S 51. In 1992, the adaptation to the maximum speed of 50 km/h that was now valid was achieved by, among other things, shortening the exhaust control time in the cylinder by 10°. The S 53 has been modified many times over the years and sold under other names such as "Habicht", "Sperber" or "Beach-Racer". All Simson mopeds that were first used in the former GDR before February 29, 1992 are allowed to have a top speed of 60 km/h. However, most S 53s already have the engine adapted to 50 km/h, as only a few S 53s were produced in 1990/1991. At the end of 1991, production came to a complete standstill and was only resumed in the course of 1992. In the Simson scene, the S-53 moped series leads a shadowy existence, not least because of the reduced top speed and the comparatively low production numbers. Enjoy the video.
