Exactly 40 years ago, Shiite militias supporting the Islamic Republic attacked the American embassy in Beirut with a car full of explosives. Dozens of people were killed. This operation was the beginning of a series of attacks on American interests. Attacks that changed the map of the Middle East with the rise of Shiite groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and have kept the region in tension until today.
