On October 21 and 22, Monday and Tuesday, the seminar “The River Plate Basin as a Historical Protagonist: Politics, Economy and Society in the 19th Century” will be held at the István Jancsó Auditorium, promoted by the Biblioteca Brasiliana Guita and José Mindlin (BBM) of USP and the Center for History and Diplomatic Documentation (CHDD) of the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG). Over two days, the seminar will have six panels in its program, addressing various aspects related to the River Plate region, such as: the production of space from the 16th to the 19th centuries; independence and party life; the civil war; diplomacy; the military; economy, society and culture. To discuss these issues, the event will feature the participation of researchers and professors from institutions in Brazil (University of São Paulo, University of Brasília; Fluminense Federal University; Federal University of Rio de Janeiro; and Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro); from Argentina (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero and Universidad Nacional de Cuyo); from Paraguay (Universidad Nacional de Canindeyú); and from Uruguay (Universidad de la República). 👨‍🏫The seminar is organized by Rodrigo Goyena Soares, professor of Brazilian History at FFLCH-USP, who researches the Proclamation of the Republic and the La Plata Basin in the 19th century from a global perspective, and who is also a resident researcher at BBM.
