It is located in the valley of the Teplica stream at the foot of the White Carpathians and its natural framework is completed by the water area of the Kunovská dam. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1251, when it is mentioned as Zobodycha, belonging to the accessories of the Bana castle in Považí. Since 1297, it has been affiliated with the Branč castle, and since the 16th century, its owners have changed. It developed as a town with fair rights and reached its greatest prosperity during the Nyáry estate. In 1546, the first Habáns came to the village and built their own settlement, called Habánsky dvor, with a distinctive organization of communal life based on their religious beliefs. They were engaged in the production of ceramics, cutlery, tanning and other crafts. Their cultural influence marked the social and economic life of the region. The inhabitants of Sobotiště were engaged in agriculture, weaving, viticulture, in the Kopanice coal mining and shepherding, in the mid-18th century there was a woolen manufactory. The economic and cultural life of the inhabitants of Sobotiště was significantly influenced by Samuel Jurkovič with his educational work and in 1845 he founded the Farmer's Association here on a cooperative basis. The village is known to the cultural public by the establishment of the Slovak National Theatre of Nitra with the first female actress Anička Jurkovičová in 1841. Sobotiště currently has 1500 inhabitants, the area of the village is 3225 ha.
