On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, 3FM DJ Wijnand Speelman completed a double marathon (86 kilometers) in about twelve hours. He raised more than two hundred thousand euros (!). In one day, he ran from Hilversum to Zwolle, where the Glass House is located this year, to raise as much money as possible for the goal of 3FM Serious Request 2024: the Metakids Foundation. An incredible achievement! Metakids Foundation: treatment of metabolic diseases Every day a child is born in the Netherlands with a metabolic disease. The disease is hereditary and causes deterioration, a lot of pain and sorrow. There is no treatment for many of these children. It is the most deadly disease among children in the Netherlands. One in four children does not live past the age of 18. The medical world is on the eve of a breakthrough in the treatment of metabolic diseases, partly through research into medicines, gene therapy and diet. Metakids fights for a world in which metabolic diseases are treatable or preventable and where no child will (suffer) from a metabolic disease. Metakids is doing everything it can to ensure that in 10 years half of all metabolic diseases can be treated. Money is needed for this. That is why 3FM DJs are already doing their utmost in the run-up to 3FM Serious Request to raise as much money as possible for Metakids. About 3FM Serious Request In 2024, 3FM Serious Request will support Metakids, which fights metabolic diseases. In the week before Christmas, from 18 to 24 December, 3FM's radio station and online channels will be fully dedicated to the campaign. Barend van Deelen, Sophie Hijlkema and Wijnand Speelman will make live radio and online content 24 hours a day from the Glass House on Rodetorenplein in Zwolle.
