Hiking in the footsteps of Roman water engineers from Nettersheim to Cologne. The Roman Canal hiking trail from Nettersheim to Cologne is 116 km long. The ancient canal is an engineering masterpiece of the Romans and crosses valleys and pierces mountains for 96 km. With the help of the canal, Cologne was supplied with clear and soft Eifel water around 2,000 years ago. In seven stages, the Roman Canal hiking trail leads along the ancient aqueduct past some Roman relics. I followed these tracks for around 60 km for three days in February 2020 and not only enjoyed beautiful hiking surroundings, but also learned a lot about the Romans.
