Feel free to write us your suggestions in the comments. We start in Oberammergau. The town in the Ammergau Alps enchants with brightly painted house facades. In some cases, entire stories are told on the plaster. The parking lot at the Kolben chairlift is a little outside. We will overcome the first few meters in altitude with the cable car. This saves us about 1.5 hours of hiking. Alternatively, you can of course also hike up to the Kolbensattel. Then you just have to follow the forest road. The view from the lift is pretty good. We look back at Oberammergau, see the Kofel towering up next to it imposingly and now and then we have a view through the forest of the ridge that we will follow later. From the mountain station, however, it is first a 1.5 hour walk up. The first part goes through the forest. The path is still mostly flat. The shade is also good. Because even though we have now arrived in autumn, we are out and about on a sunny, warm day. Then there is a steeper climb. We go up to the Pürschlinghaus. There we first enjoy a cool Coke and a small meal. This replenishes our energy reserves. Right next to the Pürschlinghaus is the August Schuster House. This is almost an insider tip. Because in contrast to the Pürschlinghaus, it is super quiet there. You can relax and enjoy the view. And from there we can already see where we will continue. We follow the wide forest road downhill a bit and then turn onto a narrower path. A sign tells us that the Sonnenberg ridge is "only for experienced hikers". You need to be sure-footed and not afraid of heights. If you don't think you can do that, you can just as easily take the same route back. The path winds along the steep slope in places. The most difficult parts are secured with wire ropes. So we hike in the direction of Sonnenberg and Zahn. Halfway along the route, a path branches off to Sonnenberg. You have to use your hands to help you. The detour is worth it though, because from the top you have a fantastic view. We see where we came from, look at Zugspitze and Alpspitze, further over the Karwendel mountains, see the Hoher Fricken and look as far as the Benediktenwand. In front of it, the Zahn rises prominently. We have to go further. So we descend again towards the ridge path and follow the path further.
