1. What David Sees 2. What David Does 3. What Lessons We Learn David and Bathsheba 11 Now it came to pass at the beginning of the year, at the time when kings go out to war, that David sent Joab and his men with him, and all Israel, and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. 2 And it came to pass in the evening, that David arose from his bed, and was walking upon the roof of the king's house; and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very fair to look upon. 3 And David sent and asked for the woman, and they said, Is not this Bathsheba the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 4 And David sent and brought her. And when she came to him, he lay with her, for she had just purified herself from her uncleanness. And she returned unto her house. 5 And the woman conceived, and she spake unto him, and she spake unto him, and he spake unto him, and he said unto him, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 6 And she went up unto him, and he spake unto him, and he said unto him, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 7 And she went up unto him, and he said unto him, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 8 And she went up unto him, and he said unto him, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 9 And she went up unto him, and he said unto him, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 10 And he said unto him, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 11 And David sent and brought her. And when she came to him, he lay with her, because she had just purified herself from her uncleanness. And she returned unto her house therefore she sent and told David, saying, I am with child. 6. Then David sent a messenger to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David. 7. And when Uriah came in, David asked how Joab fared, and how the people fared, and how the war went. 8. And David said to Uriah, Go to thine house, and wash thy feet. And when Uriah went out of the king's house, there was brought after him a morsel from the king. 9. But Uriah lay down to sleep at the door of the king's house with all his master's servants; he went not down to his house. 10. And they told David, saying, Uriah did not go down to his house. And David said to Uriah, Have you not come from your journey? why did you not go down to your house? 11. And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, are dwelling in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the field: shall I go down to mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As thou livest, and thy soul liveth, I will not do that. 12. And David said unto Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will send thee. So Uriah tarried that day and the next day in Jerusalem. 13. And David called him, and he ate and drank with him, and made him drunk. And at even he went out and lay down with the servants of his lord to his bed; but he went not to his house. Sermons by Rev. G. van Zanden are with his permission on Evangelie Herauten.
