So there may be a lateral or anterior scar, but in any case these exercises are fine. However, always follow the instructions of the surgeon who leaves you when you are discharged from the hospital. Always follow the physiotherapist's program, but the exercises are these. Now a quick introduction to the type of prosthesis. The prosthesis can be cemented or non-cemented. If it is cemented, it allows the body to be loaded already in the first few days. Therefore, in the days following the operation, you can walk with a walker. While in the case of a non-cemented prosthesis, you must give a light load. That is, the foot rests on the ground, but you must not put your body weight on it. Let's start with the simplest exercises, that is, the first ones that can be done, that is, isometric exercises. There is one that I will show you that consists only in the contraction of the glutes. Contract the glutes as if you wanted to bring the buttocks closer together, in this case you can see that the hip is slightly raised. Hold the contraction for 5 seconds. Now let's do an exercise for the quadriceps, a muscle that is lost immediately. Already 2 days after the operation, you will see that this muscle is reduced. Therefore, it is essential to start rehabilitating and strengthening it as soon as possible. Otherwise, after rehabilitation it will be much longer and it will take much longer to recover tone and trophism of this muscle. We put a soft ball under the knee. Keeping the heel attached to the bed, we must push the knee down. Then we squeeze the ball. We remain in this position for 5 seconds, then we relax. You can repeat this exercise 10 times, like the previous one. Let's move on to isotonic exercises, with muscle contraction and movement. The other exercises were with muscle contraction, but without movement. Let's start with another exercise for the quadriceps, that is, the muscle that becomes weak and atrophic (smaller) already in the first days after surgery, so it is the first one we are going to strengthen. We put the ball or in any case a support under the knee and from this position we must straighten the knee. Then we lift the ankle. It does not cause problems to the hip, so it can be done as soon as the surgeon gives you permission. Now we also do the exercises for the ankle because consider that the whole leg is still. So we're losing muscle throughout the leg, not just the hip. For the ankle, I have you bring your toes up and down.
