The state of Thuringia was forced to take a step that was unique in the history of the Federal Republic: expropriating the owners. The castle is now secured and is just waiting to begin a new chapter in a history that is almost a thousand years old... When I visited three and a half years ago, everything looked very different because at that time the castle was still owned by the Russians, who, however, showed no interest in the property and used it as an opportunity to launder money. I was lucky at the time because a window was open and so I had the rare opportunity to explore the fairytale castle from the inside. Rapunzel had literally let down her hair for me...
