@neokorea99 South Korea's manufacturing sector is in crisis. South Korean pioneer manufacturers, such as Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering and LG Electronics, have performed the worst so far and the country's manufacturing industry has fallen to its lowest point. According to a joint survey conducted by British financial information provider Markit and Japan's Nikkei Shimbun, the purchasing managers' index (PMI) for July was 47.6, ranking 24th out of 28 countries surveyed. Only Taiwan, Indonesia, Greece and Brazil were lower than South Korea. Markit pointed out that the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) cases that affected the South Korean economy in July caused the July PMI to decline. However, this did not deter the country as warning signals had already been sent out across the South Korean manufacturing industry. South Korea's three pioneer shipbuilding industries in the second quarter alone suffered a combined operating loss of around 5 trillion won. Looking at the electronics sector, LG announced a record low performance in the second quarter with an operating profit of 244.1 billion won.
