We invite you to watch the documentary film "Gdańsk 1939". The production directed by Grzegorz Karbowski tells the story of the events of 1939 in Gdańsk and their genesis referring, among others, to the creation of the Free City of Gdańsk and its Nazification in the 1930s. "Gdańsk 1939" is a classic documentary film in terms of production and content - it does not contain extensive animations or para-documentary scenes. The film consists mostly of witness accounts combined with statements by historians - researchers of the history of the Free City of Gdańsk and World War II. The production has been enriched with unique archival materials in the form of photographs and recordings showing the Free City of Gdańsk, the life and fate of Poles in Gdańsk, as well as the growing horror in connection with the NSDAP taking power in the city, and finally - the first days of September 1939. The film presents the events of 1939 in Gdańsk in an orderly and accessible way. Here we will find, among other things, a number of issues related to the tragic fate of the Polish and Jewish population, but also the heroic defense of Westerplatte or the Polish Post Office in Gdańsk. The film uses numerous archival materials, including those unknown to the general public. They are complemented by fragments of film notations with witnesses to history, made by the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk. ________________________ "Gdańsk 1939", 55 min, 2019, Poland, documentary director: Grzegorz Karbowski producer: Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk executive producer: Video Studio Gdańsk Film made with funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Media patronage: Polish Television and Polish Radio The film was made as part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, which were covered by the National Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda on the Centenary of Regaining Independence.
