This video aims to identify what makes the quantum gravity problem difficult and specific. We start by recalling the origins of the gravitational force, as studied by Newton, and by the analogies with the Coulomb electrostatic force. Then, I focus on the naive quantization approach, using effective theory methods. We realize that it is consistent to use this approach, which gives well-defined quantum gravity results, in particular the first-order correction of Newton's potential. Then, I turn to the renormalization problem, focusing on the physical and intuitive aspects. I first describe a case that works (renormalizable phi^4 theory) before turning to gravity.
