Autumn is here and as beautiful as the summer was, its time is over and the grass has also stopped growing for the next few months. The first frost is coming soon and then there is nothing left for my robotic lawnmower to do but wait for better times. Like any animal that hibernates, a robotic lawnmower also needs to eat its fill, which means that it should be put away fully charged. Then the power pack can be pulled out of the socket and now it's time to go to the Gardena APP, where our robotic lawnmower has been called Wall E for years. With 2475 operating hours, it is hopefully in its prime after almost 4 years and hopefully has a few more good ones ahead of it. This is where its hibernation is activated, during which all your schedules remain in place. During this rest period, it should be stored frost-free and, as already mentioned, start with a full stomach. So that's what needs to be done in the software or the APP and next comes the hardware, for which the robotic lawnmower must first be woken up by pressing the power button before it is switched off for the next period by pressing the button for a long time. OK, shut the lid and I start dismantling the garage, which, like the charging station, is anchored in the ground with plastic screws. Over the course of a mowing season, a lot of things grow together that don't belong together. So this is a good opportunity to remove all the dirt. At the charging station, the first thing to do is to disconnect the power cable and then the three wires of the boundary cable. To ensure that they survive the coming frosty period, they go into the winter protection box, which you can buy specially for this purpose from Gardena. The cables are plugged in and fixed in the box, where they are well protected from the weather. Once the lid is properly closed, the housing is then simply fixed in place with the enclosed ground screws. So far, so good! Now everything has to be cleaned, although I'm happy to admit that there are many things I'd rather do. But when I look at the robotic lawnmower, especially from below, there's no alternative. So back again! Gardena offers a cleaning and maintenance kit for this purpose, which I treated myself to, even though I already have a lot of it, but it's nice to have everything I need for the robotic lawnmower together. In the box there is a microfiber cloth and a Gardena cleaning spray for the robotic lawnmower. There are also two brushes, one small and one large, for removing old grass and dirt residues. The bristles are also strong enough, so the job is successful. The two screwdrivers, one Phillips and one Torx, should be able to loosen all the screws that need to be removed from the robotic lawnmower for maintenance. The operating instructions consist of just one page with little information, but what can you really say about it, and now everything goes back in the box. The fun, or whatever you want to call it, begins with dismantling the cutting blades to eliminate any risk of injury during cleaning. Then the blade plate, which is attached with three screws, is removed. Not for people who have problems with dirt, but they can use gloves. Now there is one more screw that needs to be loosened and then you can really get to everything that needs to be cleaned. I also want to take this opportunity to take a look at the battery, which is hidden under a cover on the left, but everything looks fine there, because if there was dirt there, it would most likely have caused other problems by now.
