On February 29, 2024, the Supreme Audit Office presented the results of an audit devoted to the prevention and treatment of obesity in adults. We invite you to listen to the interview with Prof. Mariusz Wyleżoł, from the Center for Comprehensive Obesity Treatment and Bariatric Surgery, president-elect of the Polish Society for the Treatment of Obesity, and Wiesław Motyka, director of the NIK branch in Rzeszów, coordinating the audit. Mariusz Wyleżoł For over 30 years, he has been involved in the treatment of patients with obesity, in particular bariatric and metabolic surgery. Until 2008, a research and teaching employee at the Silesian Medical University - Department and Clinic of Surgery in Zabrze. Student of Professor Marian Pardela, under whose supervision he introduced the laparoscopic technique in bariatric surgery in our country in 1998. In the years 2008-2017 he headed the Clinic of Surgery at the Military Institute of Aviation Medicine in Warsaw. Since 2017, a research and teaching employee of the 2nd Department and Clinic of General Vascular and Oncological Surgery of the Medical University of Warsaw located in the Czerniakowski Hospital in Warsaw, where he heads the Warsaw Center for Comprehensive Treatment of Obesity and Bariatric Surgery. In the years 2008-2013 Chairman of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Section of the Society of Polish Surgeons - member of the main board of TCHP. In the years 2010-2012 European Representative to the Main Board of the International Society for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity (IFSO). In the years 2011-2023 Chairman of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Section of the Polish Society for Obesity Research. Co-founder and Vice-President of the Polish Society for the Treatment of Obesity in the years 2021-2023, and currently President Elect of the aforementioned Society. Associate Editor of the journal Obesity Surgery. director Wiesław Motyka Graduate of Law and Administration at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.
