I have been preparing for this class for a long time. For the past 4 years, I have compared the Coptic original text of the 'Gospel of Thomas' with the Greek of the Gospel, memorized it, and produced about 50 videos of the 'Gospel of Thomas' and uploaded them to the 'TheCora' YouTube channel. For the past 2 years, I have been conducting the following in-person and zoom classes under the title 'Avant-Garde Bible Study': 1. What is the Beginning? (Genesis 1-11) Face-to-face class: Deco Chapel 2. Abraham's calling, Isaac's sacrifice, Jacob's awakening (Genesis 12-36) Face-to-face lecture: Sogang University Jesuit Center 3. Joseph's story and Thomas Mann's novel 'Joseph and His Brothers' (Genesis 37-50) Zoom lecture 4. Moses' story and the origin of monotheism (Exodus) Zoom lecture 5. David's story and Psalms (1 and 2 Kings) Zoom lecture 6. Jonah, Ruth, Herman Melville's 'Moby Dick' Zoom lecture Now we move on to the New Testament. We will trace the gospel that Jesus wanted to convey through the gospels. Why did Jesus volunteer for the crucifixion? What gospel is he trying to convey to us? I have been teaching Judaism and Christianity at the Department of Religious Studies at Seoul National University for 17 years. In particular, as soon as I returned to Korea, I published the work I devoted to, the Aramaic grammar book 'Targum Aramaic Grammar', which was the language Jesus used in the first century, and its translation, 'Targum Onkelos Genesis'. The West has been reading and interpreting the New Testament in Latin and Greek for too long. Jesus and his disciples communicated in Aramaic. Although it no longer exists, the core of the original gospel must have been Aramaic. I plan to retranslate Jesus' words from Greek back into Aramaic, the language of Jesus, and seriously examine the content of the gospel. This is a bold attempt that no one has attempted before. I want to write the 'Gospel Understood in Aramaic' with the mindset of rewriting the 'Gospel' that must emerge anew for the survival of Christianity in the era of de-religionization. The core of the gospel is this: "Return to yourself as the image of God! Love yourself with the love you found in Him and practice love for your neighbors! I. Bae Cheol-hyun's Gospel Master Zoom Class Contents 1. 'Writing for Self-Healing' After giving a lecture on the Gospel and interpreting related famous paintings and poems, Dr. Bae Cheol-hyun assigns students an essay assignment of 'Writing for Self-Healing'. He reads the essays submitted voluntarily in detail and returns them with comments. These writings will serve as a stepping stone for students' spiritual awakening. 2. Interpretation of the Greek original text of the Gospel and Aramaic translation Dr. Bae Cheol-hyun translates the Greek, Aramaic, and Syriac original texts of the Gospel, and then retranslates the words of Jesus into Aramaic to directly convey to you the original words of Jesus. In 2002, he published the world's first 'Targum Aramaic Grammar'. This class is a class where you can hear it directly in Targum Aramaic. If this word encounters you, the miracle that happened in the upper room of Mark, where Jesus had the Passover meal with the 12 disciples the day before he was arrested by the Roman army, will happen. 3. Giotto Scrovegni, Shusaku Endo, Kahlil Gibran, Han Kang We will study together with painters, novelists, and poets who explain the contents of the Gospels in a humanistic way: * We will select one of the famous paintings related to the Gospels, especially the sacred paintings and sculptures of Renaissance artists, and explain the painter's perspective. We will look closely at the frescoes depicting the life of Jesus by Giotto and Scrovegni, who ignited the fire of the early Renaissance. You will gain insight into the sacred paintings you will see at the Scrovegni Museum in Padua, Italy. * Japanese author Shusaku Endo's novel 'The Life of Jesus' simply describes the life of Jesus like an oriental painting. We will study with reference to his commentary along with the Gospels. * Kahlil Gibran, a Lebanese Maronite Christian, contained the essence of his life's faith in his poetry collection 'The Prophet'. We will read and appreciate one of his poems every hour. Every week, we will return your submitted essays with comments. We are distributing the 'Gospel Master Course' Season I completion certificate
