For José Carlos Ruiz, happiness in the 21st century "has become an instrument of torture" based on a "Check list" that we feel we must follow and that keeps us active, constantly seeking emotional stimuli: "Everything is geared towards making us believe that we are happy when we fill our lives with that list of predetermined experiences," he explains. As an expert in critical thinking, he warns: “All of this is becoming a trap that leads us to be unable to stop and reflect.” The antidote, for him, is in critical thinking: “Philosophical critical thinking allows us to question the reality of the world we live in and its messages,” he concludes. José Carlos Ruiz earned his PhD in Contemporary Philosophy with a thesis on 'Hyperi-individualism'. He is a specialist in 'Critical Thinking' and has directed several courses on 'Visual Critical Education' and the use of critical thinking in the classroom. As a researcher, his interests focus on the philosophy of culture, the analysis of hypermodern society and the approach of Philosophy to everyday life. He is the author of the titles 'From Plato to Batman: a manual for educating with wisdom and values' (2017), 'The art of thinking' (2018) and 'The art of thinking for children (2019)'. He is also a regular contributor to the press and cultural supplements, and serves as a philosophical advisor on Cadena SER. #AprendemosJuntos
