At least 2.7 million children and adolescents are currently engaged in child labor throughout Brazil – and this number is an underestimate, since it does not include, for example, those who work at traffic lights and those who shine shoes. There is no official census that measures the homeless population in the country. These numbers are just a quantitative nuance of a very dramatic reality: the streets are the reference point for home for many Brazilians, who have never lived under a roof or who have been homeless for a long time. In this episode of Caminhos da Reportagem, our team traveled to Manaus, Recife, Brasília, Goiânia and São Paulo to find out what these people dream of and how they perceive their lives, the dramas of facing violence and prejudice, and the struggle for survival.
