Palmelo is known as the Spiritist Capital of Brazil because it was created around a spiritist center, the Centro Espírita Luz da Verdade (CELV), on February 9, 1929. A small town in the interior of Goiás, located on the right bank of the Caiapó stream, with about 2,500 inhabitants, it was emancipated on November 13, 1953.
