The station building, which was built on the so-called Polanecká spojka in 1963–1967 according to the design of architect Josef Danda, was one of the most modern railway stations in Czechoslovakia at the time. According to the well-known Czech art historian Rostislav Švácha, it is one of the most striking examples of the Brussels style in Czech architecture of the 1960s. The struggle for the monument protection of the railway station has been going on for many years, and even today it is not clear how its story will continue.
