※ This video is part of the January 15, 2016 broadcast of <The Only Earth - Going to Seoraksan Shelter>. The name 'Seorak' comes from the fact that the mountaintop holds snow for a long time. Have you ever been to Seoraksan, which boasts an elevation of 1,708m, in winter? Seoraksan is a place with magnificent rock formations covered in white snow, sparkling snow flowers, and comfortable shelters, created by winter. Seoraksan boasts beautiful scenery all year round, but it shines most in winter when everything is covered in white, as well as the shelters and the people who love Seoraksan. Another name for Seoraksan created in winter, 'Seolsan' Seoraksan is the third highest mountain in Korea at 1,708m above sea level, following Hallasan (1,950m) and Jirisan (1,915m). It was designated as the fifth national park on March 24, 1970. Seorak, which spans four regions of Gangwon-do - Sokcho-si, Yangyang-gun, Inje-gun, and Goseong-gun - is called Naeseorak on the western side of Inje-gun, and Oeseorak on the eastern side of Sokcho-si, Goseong-gun, and Yangyang-gun. Seoraksan Mountain has been called the "most beautiful mountain among mountains" since ancient times, possessing the "beauty" of Geumgangsan Mountain and the "magnificence" of Jirisan Mountain. Seoraksan in winter is also known by its other names - Seolsan (雪山), Seolbongsan (雪峯山), and Seolhwasan (雪花山), which create a magnificent feast of snow flowers and icicles that adorn the mountain in white cotton to fight off the cold wind, giving it an even greater impact. For the first time in my life, among the five shelters on Seoraksan, Jungcheong Shelter (1,676m) and Socheong Shelter (1,450m) are located closest to Daecheongbong. Socheong Shelter, which opened in 2013 through reconstruction, is famous for its sunset with Naeseorak as the background, and you can also see the East Sea beyond the Dinosaur Ridge and Ulsanbawi Rock. “In order to provide good memories to those who are visiting Seoraksan Socheong Shelter for the first time, the scenery and each and every facility are important.”_Socheong Shelter Manager Choi Seong-geun During the autumn forest fire caution period, when the main trails on Seoraksan are closed to the public, there are people who become busier. They are the employees working at the shelters, which are rest areas for hikers… Especially in the winter of Seoraksan, which is inseparable from the snow, the shelter staff take advantage of the gap in the number of hikers to clear the snow accumulated on the trails and repair the facilities, making them busier than ever for first-time visitors who may use the Seoraksan shelter. The last shelter toward the summit Jungcheong Shelter, completed in 1995, is located closest to Daecheongbong, the highest peak of Seoraksan, so it is a place where many visitors stay to see the sunrise on Daecheongbong early in the morning. In addition, from in front of Jungcheong Shelter, you can see the entire outer Seoraksan, Sokcho City, and the East Sea at a glance, making it the shelter with the most visitors among the five shelters on Seoraksan… “If this shelter weren’t here, people wouldn’t be able to visit Daecheongbong as much. I also warm my hands and feet here, and drink coffee like this… ”_Hiker Kim Young-yeop For some, it is a rest stop before climbing Daecheongbong, for others, it is a place to help manage their stamina so that they can descend the next day, and for others, it is a place where they can chat with strangers they meet at the shelter. Seoraksan Shelter is a place where hikers who have endured inconveniences to rest their tired bodies from the arduous hike and enjoy the true taste of mountain food unfolds with a feast of food and romance. Although it is a narrow bed with a width of 70cm, it is a shelter full of memories and romance, so it is said that anyone who has visited Seoraksan even once will never be able to stop loving it. ✔ Program name: The Only Earth - Going to Seoraksan Shelter ✔ Broadcast date: 2016.1.15 #GolladyeonDocumentary #TheOnlyEarth #Hiking #Seoraksan #Mountain #Memories #Winter #Snow #Scenery #Nature #Travel #Camping
