As a coach, Bernardinho is one of the greatest champions in the history of volleyball, accumulating more than thirty important titles in a twenty-two-year career leading the Brazilian women's and men's national teams. Between 2001 and 2017, he was the coach of the Brazilian Men's Volleyball Team, having won two Olympic gold medals (2004 and 2016), three World Championships, two World Cups, three Champions Cups, and eight World Leagues. Along with his time on the Brazilian Women's Volleyball Team, Bernardinho won six consecutive Olympic medals (from 1996, in Atlanta, to 2016, in Rio de Janeiro): two bronze, two silver and two gold.
