The Darß is the middle part of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, which lies on the southern Baltic coast in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, east of Rostock. It has a north-south extension and a west-east extension of ten to twelve kilometers each. The largest part of the Darß is covered by forest, the 6000 hectare Darßwald. An extensive chain of sandbanks lies in front of the Darß in a northeasterly direction. Large parts of the Darß are designated as a national park and may only be accessed on signposted paths.
