Just five years ago, Diana Knigge and Phillip Alexander Schubert, both in their mid-40s, led a life of so-called prosperity: their own café, a fancy car and a large apartment. One day, they unexpectedly receive an offer to buy their café. The couple's decision is made surprisingly quickly. The price of feeling exhausted every day just to pay the bills is too high for them. They quit. Those around them react with irritation at first. The two decide on a path that they themselves do not yet know: Diana and Phillip choose a life on the move. They buy a mobile home and have now been living in 12 square meters for five years, their "home on wheels", as they call it. They are looking for a life that suits them, not one that they have to fit into. In the summer, they earn their living in Germany for the winter. In the winter, the wheels roll south. However, "van life" is not as romantic as the media often portrays it. Diana and Phillip often make their way through loads of rubbish on walks on the beach. At first they are horrified, but then they see an opportunity in it. They crawl across beaches, collect plastic waste and use it to create small works of art, which they exchange or sell. It doesn't make them rich, but it does make them happy. Even when they are far away, the two are not protected from challenges. Not everything feels "free". Their thoughts travel to Germany almost every day. Diana's father is developing dementia and her mother also needs support. Diana relieves her sister Nina, who lives next door to her parents, by phone and every summer the couple returns to their former home of Ratingen to be there for everyone. They are grateful that their families fully respect their minimalist life. On their mobile home it says "Great happiness likes small things". Phillip: "We realised that it is not the BMW and not 125 square metres. Happiness and joy are here: sunrises, nature, baking cakes, seeing a horse. These are things that cost nothing. They are not on any posters. Of course we can't buy a Mercedes. But we can deal with not having one and be happy." ???? If you liked this video, give us a like! ______ ????
