Naif Hamdan - The Story of Al-Karkhi and the Khurasani Merchant There was in Baghdad Al-Karkhi, a merchant from Baghdad, on the western bank of the Tigris, who dealt with the Khurasanis. Every year during the Hajj season, a major merchant from Khurasani would come to him with a large trade to sell to him. He would treat him honestly and faithfully, and he would earn thousands of dinars to live on until the next season. This Khurasani was absent for a year, and did not attend with the pilgrims, which affected the condition of the Baghdad merchant. He did not attend the following year, and his absence continued for years, so the Baghdad merchant went bankrupt, closed his shop, and disappeared from the people.
