What are we talking about when we talk about memory? For a long time, scientists and philosophers were talking about individual memory. Conversely, historians and sociologists were concerned with collective memory. Today, this divide has been overcome: man has (re)become a social, complex being. It is no longer possible to study memory without taking into account its evolution, its pathologies, on a small and large scale. In our hyperconnected world, where "world events" disrupt individual futures, multidisciplinary thinking is essential. Here, neuroscience and medicine intersect with philosophy, computer science and history, to highlight the full complexity of our memories - individual, collective and shared. A neuropsychologist, Francis Eustache heads the Inserm team Cognitive Neuropsychology and Functional Neuroanatomy of Human Memory at the University of Caen.
