His 66-year-old Norwegian ex-partner Rolf Nordmo is suspected of the act. The police are currently investigating the case as a murder. Janne Puhakka started playing ice hockey at the age of six in Espoo and was successful in Espoo Blues' junior teams, winning several championships. He also played for Canada and won bronze at the Under-18 World Championships. In 2019, Puhaka became the first Finnish league hockey player to publicly say that he is gay. Puhakka and Nordmo met during Puhakka's Kananda years and started a relationship, which they initially kept secret. Nordmo is an experienced veterinarian and business manager with three children. The couple moved together to Helsinki in 2019 and later to Espoo in 2022. Outwardly, their relationship seemed happy, but they had separated weeks before the murder.
