About :

We all have to die. That's why it's never too early to think about death, says Muhō Nölke. Growing up in a Christian home in Germany, Nölke asked himself questions about the meaning of life at an early age and discovered Zen Buddhism as a teenager. Many people are afraid of illness, old age and death. Muhō Nölke can understand this. At the age of seven he lost his mother, an experience that had a profound impact on him and ultimately cost him his joy in life. As a teenager, however, he discovered Zen Buddhism, then studied Japanese studies and philosophy, and at the age of 22 traveled to Japan for the first time, a country that is very closed to strangers. But Muhō Nölke returned, lived in a Buddhist monastery, was ordained as a monk, and was eventually appointed Zen master by his teacher. In 2002, he was even appointed abbot of a Zen monastery in the Japanese mountains. Olivia Röllin spoke to Muhō Nölke about the futile search for happiness, why the world is not about us, and how letting go in every situation in life prepares us for death.
