In Mongolia, horses are primarily used as a source of meat. While Mongolians used to eat mainly milk and plant-based foods, today most people eat meat every day. With devastating consequences. Cruelty to animals in slaughterhouses is not uncommon. Naranbadrakh Batkhuu wants to change that... In 2019, Naranbadrakh Batkhuu began rescuing the first horses from slaughterhouses. There are officially more than 80 in and around Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. There are also other smaller slaughterhouses that are operated illegally. Many of the horses are considered stolen because, as a result of the high demand for horse meat, criminal gangs roam the country and steal entire herds. The slaughter, processing and sale of horse meat have become an industry. In order to fundamentally change this, Naranbadrakh is calling on the government to stop the killing of horses. In order to establish respect, love and empathy in dealing with nature as values in the long term, he also wants to reach the youngest people in the country. They could do better in the future. Naranbadrakh is active on social networks, he educates people and welcomes children who can visit his rescued horses so that they can build a relationship with them - like he did as a boy. In order to appeal to a broad public with his ideas, Naranbadrakh tries to reach a wide variety of social groups. He has been working with the management of the military academy for two years. He regularly gives lectures to officer cadets and police officers. Since he does not accept a fee, the Ministry of Defense offered him the opportunity to house his herd on the military grounds: a new home for the many rescued horses. Naranbadrakh Batkhuu is a modern nomad who moves confidently between worlds. His mission: love and compassion should become a real trend.
