Geometry, universe and gravity. Third session. Miguel Alcubierre (Mexico, 1964) holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Wales and worked for several years as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Potsdam, Germany. One of his lines of research is the generation of computer simulations of astrophysical systems through Einstein's theory of Relativity. He is a member of the National System of Researchers at the highest level and of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. In 2009 he received the Medal of Merit in Science awarded by the Legislative Assembly of the Federal District, and in 2011 he was awarded the Mentes Quo-Discovery award by Quo magazine and the Discovery Channel. He was a speaker at the fourth edition of the multidisciplinary meeting Conecta.Campus del pensamiento, at UNAM, in 2016. In this course that he taught for the Grandes Maestros.UNAM program in April 2017, Alcubierre explains astronomy, physics and geometry from the perspective of ancient Greece, the Copernican revolution and the relativity of space-time. The astrophysicist takes the path that his colleagues of the past have taken to unravel scientific and philosophical concepts that have led to paradigm shifts and challenges for the contemporary scientific community.
