But the decorative lop-eared rabbit was bred in Holland by the famous rabbit breeder Adriaan de Cock in the 50s of the 20th century. He created a reduced copy of the so-called lop-eared ram. Which in record time gained immense popularity among lovers all over the world. The problem with creating such a breed was that as the size of the rabbit decreased, the ears also became smaller and lighter, which did not allow them to droop. The Dutch variety was registered in 1964, 12 years after the start of breeding work. Such rabbits weigh about 1500 g and have a variety of colors. When the breed called rams was created, the emphasis was on a cute appearance and calm character. The result justified all hopes in full! Modern children are delighted at the sight of short legs, a small tail, soft skin and large, expressive eyes. As for the character - the rams do not lack endurance and calmness, thanks to their hanging ears they practically do not react to sharp sounds. The animals are not timid, but also not mobile. Contrary to their nature, rams have been at the peak of popularity for many years. Lop-eared ram rabbits are the tamest of all existing breeds. They very quickly get used to people, become very devoted and feel very calm and safe around people. Most often, this is associated with the fact that due to their drooping ears, they hear poorly, as a result of which they are not afraid of various sounds. There are several colors of lop-eared ram rabbits: solid colors, such as white, black, brownish, red and gray. But there is also a spotted color. It is very interesting that the females of this breed are much more active and cheerful than the males. It should be remembered that despite their dense and strong constitution, these rabbits are very fragile, and if they fall from a great height or from the hands of the owner, they can injure their spine or paw. Therefore, you should be careful with them. An interesting fact is that these rabbits are easy to teach to jump over a stick.
