Meteora is a complex of dark colored sandstone rocks that rise outside Kalambaka, in the prefecture of Trikala in Thessaly, near the first heights of Pindos and Hasia. The monasteries of Meteora, which are built on the tops of some of the rocks, are today the second most important monastic complex in Greece, after Mount Athos.[1] Of the thirty that existed historically, today only six are in operation, which, since 1988, have been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. 1.Holy Monastery of Agios Stefanos 2.Holy Monastery of Holy Trinity of Meteora 3.Main Meteor Observation Deck 4.Viewpoint Meteora 5.Holy Monastery of Agios Nikolaos Resting Meteora 6.Holy Monastery of Varlaam 7.Holy Monastery of the Great Meteor - Transfiguration of the Savior.
