Mesomericity simply explained - definition, rules & examples Benzene & Aniline - Organic Chemistry. Mesomericity is also called resonance, it represents the bonding relationships in molecules using several structural formulas. The possible structural formulas are the boundary structures. The more mesomeric boundary structures a molecule can have, the higher the stability. Three rules must be observed: free and bound electron pairs must be flipped; only the neighboring atom is needed for the flipping and electron pairs must be flipped away if there are too many electrons on the neighboring atom.
