Prof. Piero Barbanti, Head of the Headache and Pain Diagnosis and Treatment Center at the IRCCS San Raffaele and Director of the Headache Center at the San Raffaele Outpatient Clinics, guest on the television program “Uno mattina” shows us how to keep our memory trained, thanks to small exercises that can be easily done at home. Our mind is overwhelmed by so much daily information; imagine how many things we have to memorize every day: phone numbers, the street, passwords. Prof. Barbanti explains that there are small tests that are useful for giving us a measure of how efficient we are with our mind; first of all there is the Stroop test. In young people the most frequent cause of forgetfulness is stress, rushing, not paying attention; the lack of that peace that is needed to learn something by heart, like when we learn poems as children. However, the mind also needs to be “nourished”. "There is, in fact, also the right nutrition for memory since the brain, like our entire body, is made of what we eat and what we eat has a huge impact on cognitive functions and therefore, also on memory. There are foods that help us a lot to make the brain live well and therefore to keep it young and also to improve the cognitive-memorial part, as there are, however, foods against memory, for example, alcohol: one of the most powerful aggressive elements in the brain." concludes Prof. Barbanti.
