Viscosity is a measure of the thickness of liquids or gases. The best way to understand the exact meaning of viscosity is to look at a flow whose speed is not constant. We look at the situation of two plates, with one of the plates moving at a constant speed. A force then acts against the direction of movement, which can be used to determine the viscosity of the liquid.
